Sponsored Content Policy

William Haley Cam publishes sponsored articles and partner content as part of how this site sustains itself. This page explains exactly how we handle it — what counts as sponsored, what standards every piece must meet, how we disclose commercial relationships, and what you can expect when you work with us or read our content.

Table of Contents

What Counts as Sponsored Content

Sponsored content is any article, link, or placement that is published as part of a commercial agreement. This includes — but is not limited to — the following formats:

  • Sponsored posts and guest articles — a full article written by or on behalf of a paying partner and published on this site.
  • Niche edits / link insertions — a contextual link placed into an existing, already-indexed article as part of a paid arrangement.
  • Homepage, blogroll, sidebar, and footer links — sitewide or section-specific link placements included under a commercial agreement.
  • Banner and image placements — image or display banners placed in the header, sidebar, or body of pages under a paid deal.
  • Product reviews or roundups provided by a brand — where a product has been provided for free or where the creator received compensation in any form.
  • Long-term partnerships and bulk packages — multi-placement arrangements at agreed rates.

If there is any doubt about whether a piece of content is commercial in nature, we treat it as sponsored and apply all the rules on this page.

Our Editorial Standards for Sponsored Content

Being paid to publish something does not lower the bar. Every sponsored piece must meet the same minimum quality standards as our independent editorial articles. That means:

  • Relevance: The topic must be genuinely relevant to our readership. We do not publish sponsored content on subjects that have no connection to the interests of our audience.
  • Factual accuracy: Claims, statistics, and data must be verifiable. We do not publish content that makes false or misleading statements, even if a paying partner requests it.
  • Clarity: The content must be clearly written, grammatically correct, and useful to someone reading it. Content that is simply a vehicle for links — with no real value to a human reader — is declined.
  • No harmful or deceptive claims: Sponsored content must not encourage illegal activity, promote harmful products, or use dark-pattern language designed to mislead readers.
  • No prohibited categories: We do not publish sponsored content in categories we have determined to be off-limits — see the section below on what we decline.

These standards exist because our readers trust us. A single piece of misleading content — paid or not — damages that trust permanently. We would rather turn down revenue than publish something we cannot stand behind.

How We Disclose Sponsored Content

Transparency is not optional — it is the foundation of an honest relationship with our readers. We follow a clear disclosure approach for all sponsored content:

  • Sponsored posts are identified as such within the content or in proximity to the content, so a reader does not have to hunt for the disclosure.
  • Disclosure language is plain and direct. We do not hide commercial relationships behind vague phrases like “in partnership with” when “sponsored” or “paid content” is the accurate term.
  • For link insertions into existing articles, the existence of commercial links is covered by the notice on this policy page, which is linked from the site’s footer and relevant pages.

We believe readers deserve to know when content is commercially motivated. Disclosure is not just a legal requirement — it is basic respect for the people who visit this site.

FTC and Advertising Guidelines Compliance

Advertising disclosure requirements exist in most major markets. In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that material connections between publishers and advertisers — including payment, free products, or other compensation — be clearly disclosed to readers. Similar rules apply under the ASA (UK), the IAB (EU), and comparable bodies in other jurisdictions.

We comply with applicable advertising disclosure rules in the markets where our content is read. This means:

  • We do not disguise paid content as independent editorial content.
  • We do not instruct partners to make claims we know to be false in order to circumvent disclosure requirements.
  • We do not participate in arrangements designed to manipulate search engine rankings in ways that violate Google’s Webmaster Guidelines (for example, selling or buying links intended to pass PageRank deceptively without appropriate disclosure).

If regulations change, we update our practices. This policy was last reviewed in August 2026.

Editorial Separation

There is a hard line between what partners pay for and what our editorial team independently decides to write and say.

Sponsorship never buys influence over our independent editorial articles. A brand that advertises with us has no say over:

  • Whether we cover them in editorial content, and in what way
  • How we review, assess, or compare their products or services in independent pieces
  • The opinions, conclusions, or recommendations our writers express
  • Which other brands, products, or services we cover alongside theirs

Our opinions and editorial judgements are made independently. This is not a courtesy — it is a condition that protects both readers and the long-term credibility of this site. For more on how we produce and maintain our independent content, see our Editorial Policy.

What We Accept — and What We Decline

We review every sponsorship request individually. There is no blanket “yes” to any category. That said, here is a general guide to what we will and will not consider.

We typically accept sponsored content that is:

  • Relevant to one of the topics this site covers
  • Written to genuinely inform or help a reader, not just to place a link
  • Factually accurate and verifiable
  • From a brand or individual operating a legitimate business
  • Free of misleading, exaggerated, or legally problematic claims

We decline sponsored content that:

  • Promotes illegal products, services, or activities
  • Contains claims that are false, unverifiable, or deceptive
  • Targets vulnerable groups in a manipulative way
  • Violates any applicable advertising regulations
  • Is designed purely to manipulate search rankings with no benefit to human readers
  • Comes from industries we have determined are incompatible with our editorial standards (including, but not limited to, unlicensed financial services, counterfeit goods, and prohibited substances)
  • Requires us to remove or alter existing editorial content in exchange for payment

We reserve the right to decline any request, at any time, without being required to provide a reason. Payment does not guarantee publication.

Our Review Process

Every sponsored content request goes through a review before we agree to publish it. This is not a rubber stamp — it is a genuine check against the standards described on this page.

Here is how the process works in practice:

  1. Request received: A partner submits a request via email, including the target URL, preferred format, topic or anchor text, and any draft content.
  2. Initial screening: We check whether the topic, brand, and format are eligible under this policy. Requests that clearly fall into our decline list are turned away at this stage.
  3. Content review: If the request passes initial screening, any supplied content is reviewed for factual accuracy, clarity, and compliance with our standards. We may request edits before agreeing to publish.
  4. Agreement and scheduling: Once both sides agree on content and terms, a publication date is set. We confirm the live link once the content is published.
  5. Ongoing monitoring: We periodically review published sponsored content. If circumstances change — for example, a brand is later found to be acting illegally — we reserve the right to remove or amend the content.

Your Rights as a Reader

If you are a reader rather than an advertiser, here is what you are entitled to expect from us:

  • Honest labelling: You will always be able to identify when content has been commercially influenced, because we will tell you.
  • Accurate information: We will not publish content — paid or otherwise — that we know to contain false information. Our Fact-Checking & Corrections Policy applies to all content on this site.
  • A clear line between ads and editorial: Our independent articles are written and edited without commercial interference. What you read in editorial content reflects the honest assessment of our writers, not the preferences of our advertisers.
  • The ability to report concerns: If you believe something published on this site is misleading, inaccurate, or improperly labelled as sponsored (or improperly NOT labelled), you can report it using our contact page. We take reader reports seriously.

Partner Responsibilities

When a brand or individual enters into a sponsorship arrangement with William Haley Cam, they agree to the following:

  • All claims made in submitted content are accurate and can be substantiated.
  • The content submitted does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.
  • The brand or individual has the legal right to advertise the product or service being promoted in the target market.
  • Any changes to a live sponsored piece must be requested in writing and are subject to our approval — partners cannot unilaterally alter content after it has been published.
  • Partners will not attempt to use a sponsored placement to retroactively influence editorial content on this site.

We reserve the right to remove a sponsored placement — without refund — if we later discover that submitted content contained false information, that the brand is engaged in illegal activity, or that the arrangement violates this policy.

Corrections to Sponsored Content

The same correction standards that apply to our editorial content also apply to sponsored content. If a factual error is identified in a sponsored article — whether by a reader, the partner, or our own team — we will correct it promptly and note that a correction was made.

Partners may not use a correction request as a mechanism to materially change the nature of the content after the fact. Substantive changes to meaning, claims, or links after publication require a new review and may be subject to additional terms.

To report a factual error in any content on this site, please see our Fact-Checking & Corrections Policy for details on how to submit a report.
